Then, retreating along the wall, he gets another one off at his closest pursuer (guy with greatest Strength). If that has slain everyone in the party, then you are DEAD!

If there is anyone left alive to attack, the wizard falls to his knees and cries, "I give up! I surrender!" Do you accept his surrender or, bash him anyway?
