It looks like you have found a gem that the goblin miners hadn't finished uncovering. If you have a pickaxe, you could try to finish digging it out of the stone. Or, you might remember that you are supposed to share half of any mining profits with the town, and just leave it alone. Note: once you decide to quit digging, you don't get any second chances, even if you come to this paragraph again.
